Programming Overview

A programmer or software developer writes the instructions (often called ‘code’) that tell a computer to perform a certain task. Because every task on a computer requires a program, there are a great deal of varied career positions available. What is important is choosing a language to program with. Different languages are used for different applications. The main qualification for Visual Basic.NET® is Microsoft Certified Applications Developer (MCAD).

Typical Roles

Typical roles can be Applications Developer or Systems Developer.

Certification

Visual Basic.NET® is one of the world’s most popular computer programming languages. It is an object-oriented programming language. At the heart of Visual Basic.NET® is the .NET Framework, which contains a rich and powerful set of classes that provides support for any area of programming. Visual Basic.NET® allows you to develop:

  • Windows® applications
  • Internet applications
  • Database applications
  • XML applications

The MCAD award is the main certification for Visual Basic.NET®. This qualification shows employers that you have the skills and knowledge required to program in a Visual Basic.NET® environment. It is also your first step towards gaining the Microsoft Certified Systems Developer® (MCSD) award, which is the highest programming certification, offered by Microsoft®.

Study Modules

We have used IT Professionals working in the industry to author study books covering the individual elements of the MCAD course (4 modules). This adds a ‘real-world’ experience to the study.

Virtual Training Centre

We have our own learning and management system called the Virtual Training Centre or VTC which comprises an on-line learning system that delivers interactive learning resources via any Internet connection. From here students can access elements of their training to support and reinforce the topics covered in the study books. The areas available are: -

  • Video Tutorial Presentations
  • Self Assessment online tests
  • Training Forum specific to learning area
  • Chat room specific to learning area
  • FAQs
  • Configurable personal details
  • Online progress checking to enable you to monitor your own progress through the course

Help and Support

We offer full support for all programme routes comprising e-mail support to a tutor with a maximum 3 day response to all learning queries, tutor initiated telephone support if query response requires it and VTC help elements of forum, chat room and FAQs.
